Before there was a craft beer shop or brewery (or ten) in every Brooklyn neighborhood, Douglas Amport and John LaPolla tapped We Are How as they were working to set up their brew-on-premises and supply store in 2011. Douglas and John had a great plan and a great space, but had no name for their endeavor. We Are How named Bitter & Esters, and created a supporting comprehensive brand identity. For this project, we gathered insights through design research, and took on crafting their name, image, brand identity, and design of various materials by focusing on what set them apart from competitors: capturing and capitalizing upon their passionate and authentic mix of art and science as an approach to craft brewing.
